Instructions for macOS.

Store xvan and escape.dat in the same folder.


To start the game (in case of problems see last section of this file):

1. From a terminal window
  cd to the directory with the files.
  type "./xvan -i escape.dat" (without the quotes)
  Or
  type "./xvan"
  Xvan will prompt for the story name, which is escape.dat.


2. From the Finder
  Navigate to the folder with the files.
  The first time you start the interpreter:
    Left-Control-click on the xvan icon (or right-click)
    Select 'open' from the pop-up menu
    Click 'open' in the window that shows up.
    Xvan will prompt for the story name, which is escape.dat.
  
  The next times you want to start xvan, just double-click the xvan icon.

In case xvan does not start but opens as a text file with rubbish (Finder) or gives
A 'permission denied' message (command line) do the following:

Mark the xvan file as executable:
 From a terminal window
 cd to the directory with the files
 type "chmod u=rwx xvan" (without the quotes)

 Now start xvan again
